Day 260 - Rear Patio

More progress at the back of the property...

The first of the natural stone slabs have been laid

This was another one where you have to choose slabs from a picture in a catalogue without much idea of how they'll really look.

We're pleased with these though, if they look this nice on a cloudy day in March they can only look better bathed in sunlight, right?!

Rest of the stones waiting to be fitted

And the drainage runs that have to be fitted between the patio and the lawn - I know, what lawn?!

Day 39 - Drain Update

The plot thickens.

Last week our architect (JD) spoke to the Structural Engineer (JB) and thought that everything was resolved. JD told Shaun, who told us. We were all expecting plans & details of the solution to come through this week, but so far JD, Fowles nor ourselves have received anything and now it seems JB has gone to the caribbean for 2 weeks!

Lets hope the info is just delayed in the post.

We don't want to push JD too much as he's just had a significant bereavement in his family.

Day 15 - Bad News

Late today Shaun called with bad news, the big concrete mystery hole is live mains drainage. It's the drain for the big house 3 doors down.

The boys had carried on digging today when one of them broke through and got covered in "effluent" - yuk! Although Shaun may have used another term!

The water at the bottom of the hole which they had assumed was just the water table, wasn't!

So this means more complication and expense. Tomorrow the drain will have to be surveyed (£200) with a 30 metre camera and the building inspector (Gail) will have to approve the solution.
